“As most of you probably know by now, the voters decided yesterday to elect Trey Allen to the Supreme Court in my stead. At about 11:00 last night, I called Mr. Allen, congratulated him on his victory, wished him well, and told him that I hoped that he enjoyed serving on the Supreme Court as much as I did. Although I am certainly disappointed that I will not be able to continue to serve the people of North Carolina on the Supreme Court, I am grateful to have had a twenty-three year career in public service and consider it the honor of my life to have been given the opportunity to serve on our State's highest court. I'm also deeply grateful to the one and three quarter million voters who supported my bid for re-election and my advocacy for fair and impartial courts and to those who contributed or or otherwise helped out with my campaign. I will remain grateful for that help and support for the rest of my life. “ - Sam J. Ervin, IV

"I worked with Justice Ervin when we were on the Court of Appeals. His opinions were always thorough and based on the law and the facts of each case. He renders opinions that are thoughtful and above all without bias."

“I served on the Court of Appeals with Justice Ervin and witnessed first hand his unwavering commitment to fairness. He has established himself as a dedicated and able member of the Supreme Court and deserves to be re-elected."
